
Marion Zimmer Bradley (1930–1999) was an influential American author known for her works in fantasy, science fiction, and historical fantasy. She is best remembered for The Mists of Avalon, a retelling of Arthurian legends from the perspective of female characters, which became a bestseller and won the Locus Award for Best Fantasy Novel in 19842. Bradley also created the Darkover series, a blend of science fiction and fantasy, which gained a devoted following.
Her writing often focused on themes of gender, power, and spirituality, offering a unique perspective in genres traditionally dominated by male viewpoints. Beyond her novels, Bradley edited the Sword and Sorceress anthology series, promoting female authors in fantasy.
