John Dalmas was the pen name of John Robert Jones (1926–2017), an American science fiction author known for weaving military, political, and philosophical themes into his work. A former U.S. Forest Service ecologist, Dalmas brought a grounded, systems-oriented perspective to speculative fiction.
His breakout came with The Yngling (1969), a serialized novel in Analog that launched a series exploring post-apocalyptic Europe through the lens of Norse-inspired mysticism and leadership.
