Anne Perry (born Juliet Marion Hulme, 1938–2023) was a British author renowned for her historical detective fiction, particularly the Thomas and Charlotte Pitt and William Monk series set in Victorian England. Her writing career spanned over four decades, producing more than 120 novels known for their rich period detail and moral complexity.
Her life was marked by a dark chapter: at age 15, she was convicted of murder in New Zealand alongside her friend Pauline Parker. The case gained renewed attention with the release of Peter Jackson’s 1994 film Heavenly Creatures, which dramatized the events. After serving her sentence, she changed her name and rebuilt her life as a successful novelist.
