John Brunner (1934–1995) was a British science fiction author renowned for his innovative and thought-provoking works. He is best known for his novel Stand on Zanzibar (1968), which won the Hugo Award for Best Novel in 1969. This dystopian masterpiece explores themes of overpopulation, corporate control, and societal chaos, using a unique narrative style inspired by John Dos Passos’ U.S.A. trilogy.

Brunner’s other notable works include The Sheep Look Up (1972), which examines environmental degradation, and The Shockwave Rider (1975), a pioneering exploration of computer networks and hacking. His writing often tackled pressing social and technological issues, making him a visionary in the science fiction genre.
