
John Clagett (1916–2013) was a multifaceted American author whose career spanned naval service, diplomacy, and academia. He served as a U.S. naval officer during World War II, later became a diplomat, and taught at Middlebury College in Vermont.
As a writer, Clagett explored a wide range of genres, including science fiction, historical fiction, and military adventure. His speculative fiction works include A World Unknown (1975), which imagines an alternate-history America shaped by a Latin civilization untouched by Christianity, and The Orange R (1978), set in a dystopian future where mutants are exiled to radioactive wastelands.
