
L Sprague de Camp (1907–2000) was a prolific American author known for his contributions to science fiction, fantasy, and historical nonfiction. With a background in aeronautical engineering, he brought a rational, often humorous, and meticulously researched approach to speculative fiction.
De Camp also wrote acclaimed biographies (like Lovecraft: A Biography) and was a major figure in mid-20th-century fandom. His work earned him the Grand Master Nebula Award (1979) and the World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement (1984).
