Martin Caidin (1927–1997) was an American author, screenwriter, and aviation enthusiast, best known for his works in science fiction and military history. He wrote over 50 books and more than 1,000 magazine articles, often focusing on aviation and space exploration. His most famous novel, Cyborg (1972), introduced the concept of bionics and became the basis for the popular TV series The Six Million Dollar Man. He also wrote Marooned (1964), which was adapted into a film about astronauts stranded in space.
Caidin’s passion for aviation extended beyond writing—he was a pilot and even restored a 1936 Junkers Ju 52 airplane. His works often combined technical accuracy with imaginative storytelling, making him a unique voice in speculative fiction and historical narratives.
