Harry Harrison (1925–2012) was a prolific American science fiction author, editor, and illustrator, best known for his satirical and adventurous style. Born Henry Maxwell Dempsey in Connecticut, he began his career as a comic book artist before transitioning to writing. His most famous works include the Stainless Steel Rat series, featuring the witty antihero Slippery Jim DiGriz, and Make Room! Make Room! (1966), which inspired the film Soylent Green.
Harrison was deeply involved in the science fiction community, co-founding the Irish Science Fiction Association and co-presiding over the Birmingham Science Fiction Group with Brian Aldiss. He lived in various countries, including Ireland, England, Denmark, and Mexico, and was known for his humor, sharp wit, and outspoken views on politics and society.
