Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG) is an American science fiction television series. It was created by Gene Roddenberry and aired from September 1987 through May 1994. The show has 178 episodes over seven seasons. TNG is the second live-action series of the Star Trek franchise. It takes place about a century after the original series, from 2364–2370. The show features a new starship, Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), and a new crew.

Nearly 100 years after Kirk, Spock and the original Enterprise patrolled the galaxy, Captain Jean-Luc Picard, a new U.S.S. Enterprise and a new crew carry forth Starfleet’s orders to “seek out new life and new civilizations” and “to boldly go where no one has gone before.”
